In 2006 my friend Sinead Gleeson first encouraged me to write a blog. Back then I wrote every day; on cinema, literature, theatre and a lot of personal stories. Blogging for me was cathartic but like most bloggers there came the time when I wrote and posted less. I then started a new blog where I just wrote about pop music. That blog, Strike Curious Poses is still there. I started transferring what I liked from my old blog to that one and eventually there was nothing left.
For the past few weeks I have been trying to think of a name for my new blog. I want to write about cinema but I know if I see a good or bad play or read a likewise book I will want to write on that too so I needed a blog title that allows me to write on all those aspects of popular culture. Tonight I decided to start again and use my old blog's name. Start with the old and move forward.
My first awareness of the importance of popular culture was seeing Star Wars with my father when I was 8 years old. Everything else simply followed; music, television, books. I consider myself lucky to have been the generation that Star Wars made us aware of the power and the beauty of cinema. I prefer The Empire Strikes Back more but it's because I remember it clearer. My Star Wars memories are comprised of being simply spellbound, the fact my father brought me to my childhood cinema; the now long gone Regent cinema in Kilkenny and also been told to stop laughing at the jawas.
All The Way To New York is from a song and if you know which one then I think you may find words you will like on this blog.
